Heidi Murray is a native Californian who has lived and worked in the Sacramento area for the past twenty five years. For the past fifteen years she has worked exclusively in clay. She has studied with Yoshio Taylor and Tony Natsoulas. Her work is shown at the Auburn Gallery and in local and regional shows. In addition to working from her home studio, Ms Murray recently began working with several other ceramic artist in a shared studio. This provides an ideal creative enviroment and artistic energy, and inspiration that is invaluable to her work.
Her work is visually intriguing. Ms Murray is interested in creating highly refined sculpture that expresses the subdued but complex emotions of women. And it speakes to the interaction of women and the natural world. And she loves teapots. Ms Murray pays close attention to detail. Her intention is to create symmetry and a flowing line in the sculpture. The design is developed through extensive carving. The sanding and smoothing in the last stage of the process gives the pieces a finished appearance. Ms Murray strives for structual stability and balance in all her work. |
